Private replies to comments
You may send exactly one private reply per comment, shortly after it's posted. This is the mechanic behind comment-to-DM — it's allowed precisely because the person engaged with your content first.
The standard messaging window
Once someone messages you (or taps a button in your DM), a 24-hour window opens in which you can send freely. Outside that window, messaging is restricted. Designing flows around this window keeps everything compliant.
Why opening DMs matter
An opening DM with a button gets the person to interact, which opens that window and lets you do far more than send a single link. It's the difference between a one-shot message and an actual conversation.
